Stage for Change

Overview

The Stage for Change Initiative is a campus program involving students, faculty and staff in developing a strategic campaign to utilize stories of identity and difference (counter-narratives) as a means to build a more inclusive and equitable community. Through our training students learn how to empower counter-narratives, engage their community in raw dialogue, and catalyze cultural and policy change. Students will learn how to use storytelling, social justice theater and activism to foster awareness, empathy, and social change.

Program Objectives

Stories have the power to bring people together, break down barriers, challenge and inspire. The purpose of the Stage for Change Initiative is to create a sustainable process on college campus for unheard and underrepresented stories to be shared and processed. Through the program students are engaged in catalyzing the stories within their community to deepen dialogue on issues such as race, class, gender, mental health, etc. as well as employing strategies that use stories at the center of building a more inclusive campus.

By starting a Stage for Change Initiative on your campus together we strive to:

  • Encourage empathy amongst students and deepen dialogue on topics such as race, class, gender, status, etc.
  • Increase students' knowledge of other backgrounds and experiences
  • Create sustainable platforms for students to share and process each others' lived experiences
  • Provide students with the tools and resources to become change agents for inclusion
